Learning Deficiency
This article is about the importance of incorporating sustainability into the world through design practices. The author tells us that the reason why design students are not incorporating design into their work is because we are consumers just like everyone else and we are facing the same challenge of resistance to change. He explains how as Americans we have mentally and physically separated ourselves from nature and the reality of global warming. As a solution to this problem he suggests that schools immediately start incorporating sustainable concepts into their design teachings even if their is a lack of knowledge and curriculum. He describes this concept as "best practice". Design can play a very important role in changing the way we view the world by relating our culture back to nature and helping to awaken ourselves from the delusion of security. The author also explains that sustainable practices must not only be seen as important but also as "hip" which is something that design can definitely help to achieve.
